ZEBULON
DUMA, the Kenyan extreme noise-metal-gabber duo of Martin Khanja (Lord Spike Heart) and Sam Karugu unleashes at Zebulon.
Emerging from Nairobi’s flourishing underground metal scene, Duma – which means darkness in the Kikuyu language – cook it up with layers of beats set to variable speeds of pummel, harrowing Swahili death metal growls, industrial noise, and electronic experimentation. Championed by Nyege Nyege Tapes – the progressive outsider label and festival concern from Kampala, Uganda – Duma has earned intercontinental attention via appearances in Europe, and listener response to their 2020 self-titled debut. This will be their first L.A. appearance.
Plus NU SIRE — textures and in-the-red crunch of Jason James, also known for his beat driven work as Force Placement and within the Black Lodge crew. Priming the air will be the blister and burst of CIRCUIT WOUND, the perennial project of SoCal heavy-music lifer Jay Howard.
