FEBRUARY 21st
w/ Clinamen
DJ King Tuffy
The real high and heavy returns to L.A. for the first time in more than a decade, as Western Massachusetts’ trouble troupe Sunburned Hand of the Man convene for a two-night stand at Zebulon. A wildly versatile and prolific collective, Sunburned navigate many modes of total freedom. With flow itself at the core, they readily invent epic psych rock jams, issue alien rants atop laid back funks, and digress into the abstract fluidly. Over two decades the group has continually shifted shape, expanding and contracting, always picking up steam. For this mid-winter heat-up, Sunburned will be comprised of: Robert Thomas, John Moloney, Ron Schneiderman, Mark Perretta, Shannon Ketch, and Gary War. Bring another head, and slip under the counter culture.
Also, on night one...
Having head-quartered within the same warehouse as Sunburned for a better part of a decade, the fiery freedoms of Eloe Omoe – the bass and drums unit of Sam Rowell and Tim Leanse – evlolved as a discrete but kindred operation. The radical improv duo emerged Angeleno in 2014, still unleashing a unified flow of instant composition and perpetual collapse.
Sunburned member Gary War is a seasoned solo traveller of fuzz and pop, having issued a slew of hypnogogic daydreams reaching back into the aughts. Plying a songcraft where synths ripple and guits twang, he’ll take the stage for a rare L.A. set on the first night of the Sunburned residency, as well as rumbling with the cadre both nights.
Also, on night two...
Clinamen is the group of Marc Riordan, Emmett Kelly, Ben Boye & Kevin Lasting. Tonight, they will be joined by Logan Hone (flute), Heather Canning (flute) and Cody Putman (bassoon) for a controlled musical experiment involving dice and intuition.
